Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of This Year Earns a Significant Extension for Two More Seasons.

In October of last year, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the channel introduced a fresh animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, reminiscent of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. During a period often defined by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and turned it into a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show follows three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."

A President's Endorsement

Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and supported its peculiarly charming appeal.

"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about observing this charming family navigate their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to evolve comedy past its prevailing sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

What Comes Next

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well catalyze that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to bask in the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
