After multiple episodes of suspense, plots and backstabbing, Celebrity Traitors concludes with a nail-biting finale
Spoiler alert - This article reveals details from Celebrity Traitors conclusion
Over the course of the show, audiences saw murders, betrayals, intense glares, and a memorable moment that pierced all suspense.
Yet on Thursday night, the ultimate victor of the first Celebrity Traitors was revealed.
Out of 19 contestants, only five remained: Traitors and faithfuls competing for the prize.
Soon, the field narrowed to just three: the final players.
Ultimately, comedian Alan Carr was crowned the winner, in a surprising outcome that broke the internet and left him emotional.
"This has been destroying me, I'm so sorry," he declared, revealing to the remaining faithfuls that he was actually one of the deceivers. "I'm an awful human being."
"You did brilliantly," they consoled him. "Everything's fine."
Online platforms quickly erupted with this development. "Most awful traitor ever being the most effective player," wrote a viewer.
"It couldn't have been a better conclusion," wrote another, while someone else called it "the TV moment of the year."
His chosen charity, a cancer charity, will receive the entire winnings, with the total amount amounting to eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.
Alan Carr's transformation from comic relief to cold-hearted killer was among the most memorable aspects of the season.
However, his victory still shocked viewers surprised, according to industry observers.
"The idea of Alan, among everyone, pulling off an expert performance in deception felt about as likely as him maintaining composure through his comedy routines."
On subsequent discussions, fellow players explained the reasons nobody had ever really suspected him.
"Alan could have come down to breakfast in a green cloak and I wouldn't have believed he was deceiving us. His humor distracted me," one participant said.
"The majority didn't vote for him because how can you vote for a person so loveable?" questioned another celebrity.
The winner stated he had "absolutely loved" his experience with the program.
"I'd like to do it again... I doubt it would be successful a second time!"
The final episode was lengthened to 70 minutes on the network. There was an unusual opening than usual, as every celebrity knew who would appear at the breakfast table.
There was particularly inspiring, and atypical for the show music, as the episode revisited some moments from each of the finalists' time in the castle.
True to form, Alan Carr gave us unforgettable quotes.
"To be honest, I began the competition a bit of an anxious mess. I've thrown some really good friends to save myself, I've murdered beloved figures in plain sight. I'm clearly a better liar and traitor than I thought."
Meanwhile, a different player commented that reaching the conclusion was "way more stressful than playing for a national team", while someone else said he was "totally surprised" to have made it so far.
In the beginning in the episode, various contestants seemed to be attempting to become the fashion standout of the competition, taking over from an earlier departed style leader.
The winner appeared at breakfast resembling a vintage television personality in a checked maroon suit, later switching into a bejewelled white suit.
But he was outstyled by a fellow player's burgundy formal wear. What a look.
Next up was the challenge, with the final players boarding a train named - of course - The Traitors Express.
This task saw them destroying images of former contestants. Have sympathy for a player who was hit on the head multiple times by the cover of a substantial container.
Soon after, it was time for the roundtable.
Two traitors made a pact in advance, pledging to stick together. "We've come a long way, I won't throw him under a bus," stated one, while the other just giggled.
However, one adhered to his promise. Yet, having slipped under the radar for the majority of the competition, the other still got the most votes.
The remaining traitor looked like to be experiencing a world of pain to be the last traitor standing. "Being alone, I'm frightened," he said. "I'm unpredictable, a rudderless ship."
Social media and viewers were similarly upset.
"I did NOT want this contestant to be banished. An endearing deceiver," commented a commentator.
"Your legacy will remain in Traitors history," wrote a different viewer.
However, there remained no time to focus on their elimination. Soon, the game reached the final stage - which was the moment everyone anticipated.
The last players gathered around the ceremonial fire. Meanwhile, the partnership collapsed, precisely when it was most crucial, in a truly WTF moment.
One contestant was eliminated in dramatic fashion - after a shock vote from their partner, who turned against them.
"This pains me to be betrayed at the final moment in that manner," remarked the ousted contestant. Later, it was revealed that when they message, the eliminated contestant calls their former ally as a traitor.
Finally, just three players were still competing: the final trio.
One player, appearing quite pleased, voted to end the competition. So did another, and everything depended on the final participant, who did the same - resulting in the traitor was the winner.
For observers, the moment where remaining contestants comforted the winner was "beautiful TV". "I anticipate it could be a contender for outstanding scene at next year's awards," they commented.
Happily, the champion soon recovered from his bout of tears, and could finally appreciate his victory.
"Such an emotional journey. I was awful at lying, my expressions gave me away and now I stand a winner," the winner said.
He also joked about that infamous murder - his best friend in an early episode - by reaching over the presenter in the concluding moments and touching her cheek.
"There's something on your face," he said, with his trademark giggle.
The last few weeks of celebrity gossiping, plotting and the occasional unexpected moments may feel like a bizarre fantasy. But it really did all happen. It will be remembered fondly.
