Blast Takes Three Police Officers During Eviction Operation in Northern Italy
Three police officers perished and at least 15 others got wounded in a seemingly deliberate detonation from gas at a rural property in Italy's north.

The explosion was triggered as law enforcement and fire personnel approached the property near Verona to enforce an removal notice for two brothers and a sister in their late 50s and mid-60s.
All three victims who died belonged to the Italian military police.
Arrests and Aftermath
A man and a woman were taken into custody at the site and a third person who ran away subsequent to the explosion was located shortly later. The trio have been admitted to hospital.
The explosion could be audible some 5km (3 miles) away and images from the scene displayed the property left as a heap of debris.
“This is a time for grieving,” commented Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, who noted that previous tries had been made to remove the three siblings in the past.
Background and Motive
The leader of the Veneto region, Luca Zaia, explained the property was under an court order due to financial obligations accrued by the three owners.
Conflict resolution experts had been assigned to engage the family members who had barricaded themselves into the home. When the police arrived soon after 03:00 (01:00 GMT), officials suspect a family member set off the blast.
“As we went inside, we encountered a completely deranged action,” local police chief the police commander stated to the media.
“A gas cylinder had been set off, and the explosion immediately struck our members,” he explained.
Petrol bombs were also located at the residence, the minister said.
Impact Assessment
Injured individuals by the explosion consisted of 11 other members of the police force as well as three officers of national police and a emergency responder.
As stated by the Verona prosecutor, the property was in a poor condition and had no electricity.
He believed the explosion had happened on a floor above the entrance and stated to reporters it was a “premeditated and voluntary homicide”. Shortly before the incident, he mentioned personnel had “noticed a hissing sound, likely the gas cylinders being turned on”.
