Homages Pour In for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Are Sealed.
Over a fortnight after the tragic deaths of esteemed filmmaker Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues persist in remembering the duo.
Quoting a Classic: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Writing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, explained he just recently felt able to share openly about his profound loss.
"Enough time has passed that I can finally put my grief into words," shared Elwes, noting that his first meeting with Reiner created an instant bond. "As we began sharing more moments together I understood this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor posted archival material from the movie, adding that he cannot recall "one day without joy".
"The film is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Things that Rob held dear. This is one of the many reasons he was the best person to guide it," Elwes continued.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, stating: "Asserting that they were a incredible duo would be an oversimplification. My heart still pangs every time I recall you." He finished with a phrase from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Colleague and Comrade
In a separate essay, revered director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved being with Rob. We had a instant connection for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese highlighted Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the protagonist.
"He could improvise with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked seamlessly with everyone, and he grasped the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese wrote.
Legal Developments: Autopsy Reports Withheld
This week, a Los Angeles judge decided to bar the publication of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, at the request from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A court order issued a security hold on the files to prohibit the public release of "related notes, notes, reports or photos" pertaining to the active case.
The coroner's office had earlier stated their deaths were the result of foul play, with a official listing noting the cause as "wounds from an edged weapon".
Aftermath and Reactions
In the wake of the tragedy, public personalities offered different responses.
Ex-President Donald Trump posted on the matter, providing provocative statements that were widely condemned by many public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his criticism to the detractors recently. Speaking on his podcast, Rogan characterized the statements as "disturbing" and suggested they demonstrated a concerning lack of empathy.
Rogan concluded by remarking that an aide ought to have intervened when the choice to weigh in on the tragedy was made.
