Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night stating they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and were in communication with the league office.
The team did not mention the player specifically in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Instagram
The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, posted a series of photos on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.
Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people injured. Rice was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
On the field, Rice finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
