Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at all of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the championship lead from Piastri by a single point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before sprint qualifying scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in realistic title contention, lying 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, though minor, when he rotated at the fourth corner soon after starting.
Tsunoda slid over the track edges before spinning across the escape zone, and was lucky to escape with just a minor contact of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the conclusion of the session, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho corner leading to the final corner on to the pit straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the rest of the field, with the German's car third fastest, over half a second off Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
