The former personal attorney for Donald Trump has resigned as New Jersey's top federal prosecutor. This follows a legal ruling that questioned her legal standing to occupy the role.

Attorney General's Statement

The head of the Justice Department, Pam Bondi, announced the prosecutor's departure on the start of the week. In a statement that the judicial decision made it impossible for the official to effectively run her office.

"Do not interpret compliance for surrender," Habba stated. "This battle will now stretch across America."

Judicial Challenge

Her resignation follows closely on a judicial panel ruled that she had been serving in violation of the law as the top prosecutor. This decision is likely to affect scores of legal proceedings in the state.

The judicial panel said that a acting appointment that bypassed confirmation by the US Senate violated the Federal Vacancies Reform Act.

Ongoing Legal Battle

Bondi said that Habba will continue working within the justice department as a high-level advisor. Habba plans to seek further review of the court's action, aiming for a different outcome.

Writing online, Bondi contended that the court "cannot be permitted to override the President's choice of attorneys responsible for carrying out the executive branch's core responsibility of prosecuting crime."

Bondi highlighted her tenure and noted that while she was in charge, the city of Newark saw a significant drop in crime. She also stated that the southern city of Camden had its first summer in half a century without a homicide.
