The British tennis star achieved the biggest win of his professional journey by coming back from a early deficit to beat world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz in three hard-fought sets in the early stage of the Paris Masters.

Although he had previously defeated Alcaraz on two prior meetings, this triumph signifies Norrie's initial success over a current world top-ranked player.

"Massive. Incredibly significant for me," stated Norrie, who becomes the latest English competitor in history to overcome a global number one. "Coming back from injury last year, I lost in the opening stage of qualifying rounds here. I just tried to embrace my performance in the closing months of the year. To achieve a victory like this, it's the biggest win of my tennis journey, my maiden triumph over the world No 1 and probably the most confident player in the sport right now."

Norrie, seeded 31st in the world, also stopped Alcaraz's impressive run of nine finals in a row and 17 successive elite tournament wins, which marked the top run of outcomes in the young champion's developing professional path.

Contest Analysis

Alcaraz seemed to be moving confidently to success in the beginning as he eased past the opening set. However, Norrie steadily fought his way into the match by serving with greater precision and dragging the Spanish opponent into extended, grueling points. His persistent consistency and reliability gradually took its toll.

During large parts of the contest, the world number one served well but he found it challenging to get his timing right off his groundstrokes.
