The Streaming Platform is Producing a Far Cry TV Show from the Minds of Alien: Earth and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
The latest Far Cry title that gamers dived into was Far Cry 6, which starred Giancarlo Esposito in the role of the villain, Antón, and debuted on October 6, 2021. As a series, it has a reputation for celebrating chaos and madness with equal enthusiasm, all while weaving engaging, politically driven narratives. No wonder then that the network’s decision for a Far Cry seasonal program pulled in two creators whose creations have embodied all of those things.
Show Details
Adapted from Ubisoft's popular video game franchise, the short-run anthology series will stream on Hulu and is being made by FX Productions. The show will also mirror the video games' structure by featuring a different setting and group of personalities in subsequent series.
Executive Team
Rob Mac, producer of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the mind behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will act as showrunners on the series via their production banners, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be joined by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.
We’ve shared magnificent partnerships with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a combined six series and 32 seasons of television, and we are overjoyed that they are teaming up for Far Cry,” commented Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a announcement. “I have no doubt that they will present this story in a way that is original, gripping, and extremely entertaining. We also want to appreciate our associates at Ubisoft for trusting us with this cherished property.”
What’s Next
Mac will also appear in the show, but currently, we are unsure of what role that might entail. Hawley's Alien: Earth was recently renewed for more episodes, with FX and Disney finalizing a new comprehensive agreement with the showrunner.
“Being able to collaborate alongside Noah Hawley is a fantasy come true,” remarked Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been remarkably accommodating, placing faith in us with one of the most iconic video-game realms ever created. And throughout this process, my FX team constantly supports me with their steady trust and support.”
“What I love about the Far Cry game collection is that it’s an anthology series. Every title is a take of a theme, the same way every series of Fargo is a version on a story,” said Hawley. “To develop a big action show that can change from one instalment to the next, while always examining the essence of society through this multifaceted and chaotic perspective, is a ultimate goal. I’m eager to partner with Rob and bring our common unconventional, visionary sensibility to the television.”
A release window for when we can expect the new Far Cry show has not yet been revealed. The series will stream on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus in other regions.
