'Trapped in a Dreadful Dream': Relatives of Unaccounted For Teenagers Await Information After Alpine Blaze
The loved ones of teenagers unaccounted for after a tragic blaze at a venue in a Switzerland's alpine town are enduring an agonising period of uncertainty for answers and pleading for any details about their loved ones publicly.
The inferno ripped through the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the Swiss Alps of the Valais region, in the small hours of New Year's Day. Verified footage depict the roof structure igniting as beverages with sparklers are raised in celebration.
Emergency services have stated that it could take considerable time to formally name the those who perished of the disaster, which resulted in the death of numerous partygoers and injured another over a hundred. Officials stated on the latest update that the majority of the injured have been accounted for, with the process ongoing to identify the other six.
In the meantime, families and friends have been using the internet to appeal for information about their friends who were at the bar that evening.
Heartbreaking Pleas for the Missing
The location of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, a teenager, are not yet determined, according to an appeal from his parent.
The resident of a town near the city, told a publication that she had returned to the city to check whether he was in the hospital, while his other parent did the same in Bern, but did not locate him.
"It feels like a terrible dream, an ordeal. The options are finding my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in intensive care. It's horrific," she told the paper.
She explained that some of his peers had been found with injuries covering a significant portion of their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they went through an absolute nightmare."
The Italian government has said that six of its citizens have not been located.
One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage junior golfer, originally from Italy but now residing in Dubai.
The Italian Golf Federation has stated that he is dead, without mentioning the fire, paying tribute to a "young athlete who embodied dedication and true sportsmanship."
His parent, reportedly stated that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around the new year. An representative has clarified that a formal confirmation of his death is not yet.
Additional Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is likewise among the missing. His mother explained that he had been on holiday but had gone out with a group and ended up at the venue.
"Someone with him said they ran away after the fire erupted and that he had his phone with him, but then at a specific moment he couldn't see him anymore," she said, adding he had been wearing a distinctive piece of jewelry.
One of his teachers stated, "I've always been struck by his kindness and smile, combined with great responsibility. Often ask if help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Greek and Swiss nationality but lives full-time in Switzerland, was also at the bar on that night, according to reports.
Her brother has shared an urgent request online, saying the family has had "no updates" regarding the 15-year-old or the three friends she was with, who are also unaccounted for.
Officials from her country of origin say they are closely watching the case.
